Notes: | Islington Corinthians F.C. was an amateur football club based in the London neighborhood Islington.(1) The club was founded in 1932 by Thomas Smith (ECPO Agents ID: 9690), a member of the local Rotary Club, and competed in the Metropolitan Midweek League.(1, 2) (The club should not be confused with Corinthian F.C. who were similarly named, equally based in London and also composed of amateurs. 3) In 1936, the club played a match against the visiting Chinese Olympic football team at Highbury.(1) A selection of 19 unmarried Islington players was then sent on a world tour to continue competing in friendly matches against foreign teams.(1, 2) Among their stations in East Asia were Singapore, Hong Kong, and Shanghai. (4, 5) More detailed summaries of their world tour, its stations, match results and notable team members can be found online.
