There were two players with the surname "Miller", John Miller (ECPO Agent ID: 9779) and William Miller (ECPO Agent ID: 9746). Both Millers also played for Dulwich Hamlet, John Miller also played for Tufnell Park and Margate.(1) The Jing bao 晶報 article "Jie shao Yishilindun" 介紹依士林頓 (Issue No. 3485, April 3, 1938, special issue) mentions both "W Mile" W 密勒 (in its first part, on p. 1) and "Ding Mile" 丁密勒/ "J Mile" J密勒 (in its second part, on p. 2) as members of the Islington team in China. It therefore appears that both Millers went to China in 1937/1938. However, it could not be ascertained which of the Millers played in the match against a Shanghai team on April 3, 1938. Other Jing bao 晶報 articles about the match just speak of "Mile" 密勒. And although a scan of the original paper brochure for the Shanghai match is available online, the brochure - confusingly - shows "J. W. Miller" in the team line-up, and was later hand-corrected into "W.
